Welcome, this gallery web site had been set up to showcase the diverse, exciting and interesting work of artist Diane Carlyle. Thank you for dropping by.

This gallery gives you an insight into my work, ideas and my life on different levels. The site has been divided into different groups of interest and easy visual access, so as you can capture a sense of the work I create and sell.

The website is a wonderful tool but no substitute for conversation so please contact me if you would like to enquire about owning a piece of my art or if you are interested in discussing my work further.

The Atelier Carlyle web site would not have been possible if it was not for the assistance and perserverance of Roger Wikeley of the Temple of Din, who aided in the design and coding of the site.

Atelier

In 1996, Diane rented the commercial space at 1809½ Glendale Blvd, Echo Park. LA, California. This run down commercial space was to become her sanctuary and an inspiration to the many people that were to visit in the years ahead. The place where Artist Diane Carlyle came into her own, playing by her own rules, she created a space, which was later to be called "Atelier Carlyle", Atelier meaning art studio and workshop. Diane worked and dedicated the next 5 years of her life, to the undertaking of an extraordinary journey. The journey was documented through the emergence of the poetry and art work produced during this time. "Atelier Carlyle" was to become a lived in, Art Installation. From the start, the place was a sacred space, at last a safe haven were she could tap into her own well spring of creativity.

All her work from this period was an external expression of an internal idea or feeling. She was on a journey in search of a sense of peace and awareness, a greater understanding about who she was and her place in life and living. After the first few years she began to open the studio, gallery to the public, allowing people into her space as for the first time was not an easy task, its is akin to the revealing of ones soul. For her the journey was much deeper and more important than making money, but she would reluctantly part with a piece off work now and again to pay a few bills and put food on the table. She live the experience of a very poor, under nourished artist and has learned many key skills on surviving with little to next to no funds, valuable lessons in down sizing and not living a life of ownership to material things.

Diane was a member of the Echo Park Artists and although at this time rather introverted and slightly reclusive, she would participate in the annual Artist Studio Tour and Art Exhibitions. On a warm hazy Californian morning, Diane locked the door to "Atelier Carlyle" her studio of the past 5 years, for the last time. Why? In her own words, "Because one has to keep going, one may reach a peak and perhaps want to stay and linger a while...but to not move forwards and conquer new goals would be to stagnate and loose momentum of life...also for me the journey was not complete, for to return is as important, as it is to leave..." On November 2nd 2001, Diane flew back after 16years in California, to her roots in England and reunited with family and friends

The journey goes on, there is no conclusion. It's a continual journey about life and living. Life Is Art...
