St John the Baptist Church, founded in 1840 to serve a congregation of newly arrived immigrants. Today this small Roman Catholic Church is almost lost in the heart of the fur district. The exterior has a single spire and the brownstone facade on 30th street is dark with city soot. Still many treasures lie within this dull exterior.
